Day 2: Tuesday, March 13th

Today was pretty interesting.  In the morning I spent the first half of the day completing a form that I had starting re-doing yesterday, and sent that to my mentor.  After that, I went down to the courthouse with Gregg Dubit and Amanda Saunders to sit in on a County Commissioner Meeting regarding the CEAP proposal.  The CEAP document (Climate Energy Action Plan) discusses a series of recommended action plans for the county.  After hours of locals speaking for and against the document, and commissioners speaking their piece, it was motioned that CEAP was not accepted.  CEAP was partially constructed by 4CORE when the county came to 4CORE and asked them to create this proposal in 2006.  4CORE and local volunteers worked together to construct this in over 10,000 hours.  4CORE primarily appeared at this open meeting in order to state that this was a document that was commissioned to them by officials, and that this meeting is about CEAP, not about 4CORE.  Although this was slightly disappointing that CEAP did not pass, it was also a really cool experience to get to be in the county courthouse participating in a moderated caucus.  For the remainder of the day I worked with familiarizing myself with Huddle, a website that my mentor and 4CORE actively uses, as well as tried to figure out how to use different "infographic" websites.  Overall it was a very exciting day in which I was able to see just how active 4CORE is in the community.
